Information for Funders

“If I had this training many, many years ago, some of the placements I had, I would have kept them. Rather than saying ‘I can’t be bothered’, I would have worked with it. Since doing this course any placement I should get, these kids are staying with me.”
Joan, foster carer and Fostering Changes course participant

Over the last twenty-five years research and practice have continuously highlighted that the key to improving outcomes for children and young people affected by neglect and abuse and subsequently removed from their whanau is the provision of stable and positive placements.
Research also recognises that children requiring foster care placements often present with a range of challenging behaviours and/or mental health issues (over 60%). Therefore in order to provide stability and to support children and young people with complex presentations caregivers and workers require specialist training.
